Rear spoiler

This has probably been asked before many times however, has anyone fitted a F2 / s1600 rear spoiler to their puma and what differents has it made...fuel economy...speed...handling..and anything else you can think of.

I think the main differance when you fit a rear spoiler to an FRP is it immediately makes it look crap

I would think it also makes your mpg worse, probably affects the top speed, restricts the rear view and your boot will keep landing on your head.......

My Evo spoiler means the boot no longer stays up, my top speed has been curbed but I don't often max out the FRP on the road. The highest I have seen on my data logger is 129mph I expect other non spoiler FRP's go much faster
I can't see mine when i'm driving as I look under it, the reason I opted for the EVO spoiler.
The look is a matter of taste, mines fitted to make the car handle better, which it does. The back end is much more planted when braking or cornering hard.
MPG, I couldn't give a xxxx on my MPG, If I did, I wouldn't own the car. 8 MPG is my worst on the track.

Rubbish. If you are lacking rear end cornering stability with the FRP I would suggest replacing either tyres, beam pivot bushes, top mounts, dampers... or all of the above!? Maybe its just me but I've never seen the need to improve the car with its standard chassis setup. And that's not even going into the aesthetics

I have a small subtle spoiler, personally I think it looks good and blocks out the [profanity replaced] following with their main beams on so practical aswell, the boot stays up and it handles better than alreet...





I personally dont like the bigger spoilers, but hey each to their own at the end of the day

Thanks again everyone, I didnt think it would cause this much debate. I would have been going just for looks as I have never got into a situation where Ive thought oh sh t. Thanks also for pics. Dont see many down here in Devon.

No I'm not a great lover of the looks of the spoiler, but its there for a reason ...
Maybe thats why Kate carries a spare wheel in her boot on track days. Her bushes etc are all worn out, nothing to do with the back end stability .
Not like any FRP have ever been written off going backwards through a hedge or off on a roundabout backwards
My rear beam is powerflexed, Tyres are fine, had Pirellis, now on Toyo's very progressive when it lets go these days.
Enough for me to lift off over steer it quite happily on roundabouts.

Yes that was mine, while my girlfriend was driving on her first ever trackday. I doubt a wing would have kept the rear planted at approx 50mph with a decent yaw rate

Anyway I think you missed my point, any car can turn around when being pushed hard in the wrong hands...

I'm a VERY late braker for corners, being bought up RWD, so quite happy for the car to arrive sideways
If I was in an Escort, I would have even provoked with a flick to make sure it did.
So I have massive weight transfer off my rear wheels when turning. ( I know its not the way to drive FWD fast, slow in fast out blah blah blah..)
Hence I tend to get the rear end breaking traction if I'm pushing it hard. (I spun at around 70mph at my first trackday)

Even without the late breaking, a FRP will happily loose the rear end on a damp road, however good the tyres and suspension bushes.
Mines nowhere near as prone to that any more.

The spoiler is definitely NOT fitted for looks..Its there for a reason, like the LSD I fitted, strut brace, shift lights and nitrous.
All to make the car faster and more stable in and out of a corner.
Pay your money at RS day and sit in my passenger seat for a few laps, (£10 I think) I'm already paid up for open pit track time. (bring a crash helmet too)

Leighton, me and a few other are trying to resurrect the forum, but a couple of members are not answering emails etc and haven't been on here for about 5 months.
We really should out of courtesy if nothing else check with them before doing anything

Bring your lid along to RS day Glyn, sit in passenger seat and we can play at going sideways into the chicanes.
I almost took the bollards at the second chicane out with the passenger door a couple of years ago.

This website does seem to be the natural home for FRP discussion and the activity has been pretty poor since I joined last year. It'd be great to resurrect interest and enthusiasm on here so that we can spread the word and ensure our cars gain, or at least retain, the iconic status they deserve

Ohh and just to stir up the FRP looks pot a bit further, rear spoilers may indeed look gash but at least they're a slightly worse crime than privacy glass
