Just copied over from Pumapeople thought you guys might like a look and maybe a ridicule!

Well guys had a brainwave the other night after I remembered someone getting custom springs made. Maybe 10-15mm lower than standard

So after some discussion with these guys.. http://www.springcoi...suspension.html (highly recommended) i'm going to pop my old spings in the post to them. 1 front and 1 back. He'll get back to me with a quote and some info on the spring.

I'm a little wary because they are Eibach springs and I rate Eibach above anyone for near OE+ suspension. We'll see though. No harm done.

Rough price of £35 a spring so if anyone was wanting a set i'm sure I could get a good deal out of it.

Quite excited. I did explain that i'm looking for perfection. If they are not he said he would refund my money no problem. They do come highly recommended as I said and I know 2 MK2 Escort Rally cars that run springs from these guys aswell as other reviews.

I must add.. i'm totally against modifying the FRP. To the point where I have no non oe parts on my car except the tyres. But I do get a little disheartened after detailing to see the car sit so high. So it led me to this path.

I'll keep the thread updated with my findings. And if I go ahead with the order.

This sounds very interesting. I'm like you, want to keep it as the good Ford intended but they do sit high. Price sounds great! I guess some pics will be the deciding factor :)

But if all goes well then I'll be joining you.

I would avoid this at all costs! Retaining the same spring rate while using a shorter spring will cause the wheels to foul the arches significantly on hard cornering... just ask any of the people on here who have tracked theirs.

The car was designed by the best, just leave it alone. :D

I would have thought they would have taken that into account?. They may change the modulus of rigidity by using a different material, this will affect spring rate.

Looks like I wont have any money anyway :(

As mentioned Chris, I have brand new suspension on my car fitted only 2 months ago.

I understand what Burfy is saying but I don't think he understands the kind of drop i'm looking at here. We're not talking coilovers. We're talking 20mm at most probably.

Ford offer Eibach springs as an option on lots of cars these days. I'm sure the company in question could replicate that spring to the enth degree and then even improve it.

Don't forget these springs were made 11 years ago. I'm not saying it's old tech because in my opinion it's one of the best road set ups i've ever seen on any car bar the harsh ride. The handling is something else.

Doesn't mean I don't want it to look a little lower. I'll consider it over the next few days.

Eibach did a deal with fords when they made the suspension setup for the FRP and in terms fords had the copy rite on the springs so thats the reason a lowering kit was never made for the car. If you wanted a set making that would not be a problem as i know someone in the spring industry that could make them at a reasonable price but I would only consider this option if you were to put biger wheels on the car cheers.

what your not liking, is actually the shape of the wing, not the ride height surely.?

as the car is already lowered and handles like a beast....

notice no one mentions re-shaping the arches so the car appears lower..

I knocked the heat shield off my cat on someone drive as the car touched down, I think you will more problems than it's worth.
My splitter only "just" clears kerbs now, there are no front bumper left in stock so if you touch a kerb, your knackered.

Its proper FRP bushes on the front and powerflex on the rears.
It's wearing P Zero's in the top picture and the bottom is from Saturday and its on Toyo T1R's all round now.
Bear in mind it is flat out in both pictures, the only way it gets driven on the track

I would never dream of lowering mine if anything it could do with it being 10-20mm higher so I can fit a higher profile tyres on. Clearance is very tight on the wheel arch liners at the front even with RPJ's and new springs (fitted by Chris at a very reasonable rate) I do worry that if I come to track where a certain amount of lock is required then I'm going to loose the arch liners.

Good points there.. As you say..there isnt much room for error in that department at all.. Even a few mm compression on top mount rubbers can have you skidding round the carpets.. Some people will mess with what doesnt need messing with no matter what the advice i think..lol :-). I certainly wouldnt want to drive the car for long without the carpets in place would really make a mess of the inner arches and air box etc etc...
