Chris, can you put a picture up com what to trim off the anti squeal shim. Those jurid pads have started making a noise. I will pop them back out com Saturday and trim them up. Nearly as loud as the mintex now. ........ Thanks.
Here goes Graham...
here you can see
standard OEM pad with alcons double sided sticky shim... (cut pointing toward from of car)
A Pagid pad with backing plate, which i cornered off...(without detaching the plate!)...
also, a pagid pad with a sticky shim on top of the backing plate cut to the same shape...
don't bother with the stick on shims any more...just source a pad that has a backing plate on, cut the digonal off and then on fitting , wipe over the backing plate with a good qaulity Silicone RTV product (made by Ambersil)... this helps to bond the pad in place and can prevent the annoying drone issue you sometimes get after a caliper service....
That isn't the final word on Pad Squeal tho i think, as this presumes of course that the calipers are working 100% and the pistons are moving freely across the seals etc etc.... (your not still using chrome bar are you..lol
)... condition of disc surface also plays a part.... As Jacko points out Regulaly..(lol) the bell and rotor system does seem to absorb the rigidness of the Alcon system up to a point and does run with far less noise problems than the OEM setup..
but after saying that, iv'e not had a peep out of mine for many years now...brakes squeal is a thing of the past for me...
Regards
Chris
