Hi all. I'm new on here and just have a quick Q.
After i receive some redundancy money (every cloud has a puma shaped blue lining) im going to be in the long awaited for position of buying a FRP :-).

How do you guys and gals go about insuring them? When i go on your run of the mill insurance website and pop in a number plate it returns as a stock 1.7 puma ect.. but obviously its not your stock puma, but at the same time the came out of the factory as a FRP so arnt modified? are they? I wouldn't want to not declare anything to save a few quid only to find my self in the deepest of problems if the worst happed.

So is it best to insure it as it is or go to a insurance company that allows modifications and pay for the christmas party

Cheers in advance for any help!

Hi, insure mine through Direct Line and it always comes up as a Racing Puma when entering the reg and also says it on the documentation so give them a go :) .

Mines insured with Admiral on a multi car policy. For some reason the FRP's come up as 1999 vintage :?
I'm paying £170 odd this year for Prot Comp limited to 4K miles.

Just a standard Racing Puma with No mods.

Yep try doing it manually under a 1999 then you should see the FRP listed as 99-00

I had the same with mine as it's a 2000 and their system just didn't pick it up properly.

£480 with Footman James, unlimited milage fully comp which in hindsight is a bit silly as I only do about 1500 miles a year in it.

Only thing they did was bump the excess up to £500 quid because of the stickers and paint job.

Obvious thing to do is try a comparison site like Confused.com, and then the specialist brokers to make sure. My FRP is my third car, and nothing comes close to Admiral Multicar on price / adding the FRP actually reduced the annual cost of the other two cars! Key thing to check is that the description at the insurer matches that in the logbook, and that the value (cost of replacement) is sensible.

PS: being 38 and boring brings the FRP in at £300 pa. But I'm only planning to drive it to and from track days, cover for which is another matter.

Thanks loads! :-). It seems from looking around more this week that some do have them down as a 'Puma - Racing' and some just as a 'normal Puma. It still baffles me that some insurance company's out there though will charge me nearly £1000 for a normal puma when Ive had quotes for a racing puma coming back at around £400

ill just make sure i double check when it comes to insuring. Again cheers all :)

Ok here we go thought I'd add my recent insurance which I took out yesterday

£692.53 insured with Flux Direct

8 years licence
Pass Plus
4 Years no claims and protected
Insured as Ford Racing Puma (not just Puma) at value of £6000
Garaged at night
limit to 3000 miles a year
DR10 - Drink Driving (Just don't do it, trust me)
SP30 - Speeding

Mum as a named driver (reduced it by about £200)

Thats about it apart from the usual windscreen repair etc
