fed up of spending money on brake pads that have had 1/5 of there life stripped off just to fit the frp??? I AM!!!

no arguements here look closely at the calipers and one half is 'thinner' than the other..... theyv been machined so that we need to buy 'specific' thickness pads....at £120!!! (f*&^ers!)

ok so iv already got hispec to sort that by supplying oem pads thinned to 15mm from 18mm for £60.....

I WANT MY 3MM BACK DAMMIT!!! currently im going thru pads every 10 months so im considering having a 6mm 'spacer' machined to fit between the 2 caliper halves....just like hispec etc do with there oem calipers.
currently im running £130 ferrodo pads (*&^%^&^*awesome!!) so its getting a bit expensive!

im gonna take a caliper to an engineers i trust and get them to laser cut some ali (just like oem companies do) to do the job.....anybody want one shout up......will be less than £20 def

I machined my pistons like Chris recommended so they are flush with the caliper body.
Will now fit Porsche pads etc OK.

I'm suspecting this is due to Mintex changing the shape of the pad.... i wonder if Mintex even realised.. :?

I bet they have stacks of 1992's just sitting there...

ooo, good questions.....

machining 1mm off the pistons allows use of 16mm pads....oem for anything other than the frp...

however this shape pad is also available in 18mm

mmm....the pads actually dig into the shims by about 1mm....removing this could mean your reducing the travel of the piston....minor detail but one il have a think about...

i already make my own FULL stainless bridge pipes....no bother to knock up an 'extended' one with jig & formers etc....would add 50 pounds on tho....

will see what the savings are to be cos 50 quid is gonna ruin it!!!! might have a play myself just for the fun of it...

ps; dont forget the pistons are now available from HISPEC motorsport for 8 pounds 20 each!!!! just tell them to take 1mm off the end if u like too.....

forget it....had a think;

if i space the 2 halves apart but one side is bolted to car that means the centre moves half the distance of the spacer....but the disc aint gonna move!!!!

so its a case of either change the offset of the disc, make a spacer to sit behind the disk or machine the caliper mount lugs....er no! not viable.

never mind

mm, i did wonder where this was going.. i'm suprised it's not already on offer at PS...

The standard height of 31.83mm only needs reducing to 31 dead to enable the standard porsche thickness to be fitted (17.5mm)... a couple of the brands are shipped as 18mm (Ferodo incl) which is a pretty awkward pad size and needs properly skimming down....Re-mounting or spacing the caliper is not only as dodgy as hell, but just un-necessary

One of the handy things about the Textar i often use is they come shipped at around 17.2mm so can quite often be fitted without shaving down if owner is using 26-27mm discs...

when the piston mod is done it saves a lot of hassle as the Textar pad will pop straight in WITH the backing plate even with new 28mm discs.... 8) they work quite well too..
