Hi,

I live in south of France, I'm Sébastien.
I'm a puma owner, with some parts of racing puma.
Now i'm really motivate to come in England in order to buy a Racing puma.
I registered here because i prefer to buy a car on the forum, better communication than Pistonheads,.....
When i will get it i will upgrade my presentation.

Just one little picture of my puma 1.6 :

Welcome Sebastien your Puma looks stunning. This is a very good place to get advice and help. As your in France I'm sure if you see a car that looks good someone on here if close to it could give it a look over for you before you come over to the UK.

I got many problem with my FRP since i leave back home : First clutch died, and after I had to do a swap, engine broken...
Finally #105 have new engine, with only 5.000milles more than the car, and drive better than before !
This car always make me happy.

Gosh that was unfortunate for you to have to repair.
What caused the engine to need replacing?

If i did this long trip it's not to broke or sale the car :)

I will try to explain with my english.
First the car was very thirsty with oil (like 0w30-5w30), i need to add about 2L every 1.000 miles, so the engine was tired. Furthermore, one day, the engine had a very high noise, not very good.
I opened the carter (where there is oil) and there are some scraps of the motor, probably
the bearing shell, crankshaft are dead.
I preferred to change all the motor instead of tried to repair it, because that should be more expensive.
Now i haven't the FRP camshaft, because i don't know to change the cam belt and i haven't the tool, but i will try to found someone to do it !

Heck that is rough to find that happen.
The 1.7 is pretty strong but when it lets go it goes, it hates running out of oil.
There are some engines with really high mileage so they can be OK, hope your rebuild is good for you.
Be careful with your right foot whilst waiting to sort the timing out.

My new engine is better than the old without the FRP camshaft.
I did about 1.000 miles since i change it, i never add oil and the level is always good. It was in a classic puma 1.7 so i think nobody drive very hard with it.

I know this engine hates running out of oil, that why i always add it, but i thaik the old owner didn't add it, and the engine wasn't as strong as it must be.

Finally this car cost me a lot of money but it still alive. I think i will never sell it, because i have remembers because of it, that was the first travel in England.
