What wishbones are they? They don't look to be standard FRP parts...

Car looks great though 8)

Well spotted! They are standard puma after Market items that I had cut and rewelded by a friend who is a really good engineer, he over engineered the plates that were welded on to increase there strength and stiffness, I also had the ball joint holes slotted to allow camber adjustment

Looks really tidy 8) One other thing is you have the wrong donut bush in, the FRP has the 'non-voided' bush, see here: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=951

What sort of bolts are you using for the ball joints? Are they likely to slip over time??

Stainless super high tensile with nylocks, thanks for the comments, I realise it's not an original frp but I used as much original stuff where possible and used some creative flare!

thought it was about time to update the project thread, as some of you might know i am working n a 1.7 turbo conversion, i have been busy collecting parts together for a while, here are some pics of my parts collection so far..

second hand engine bought as a spare to work on

Image

oiley old internals (gonna be replaced with forged steel low compression pistons/rods

Image

crank removed (will be adding a key way and having it shot peened/polished)

Image

pace products S2 ERST charge cooler

Image

loads of new ford parts, including: water pump, upper and lower cam cover, oil baffle, aux belt, pas pump and bracket, thermostat and housing, oil brether housing, frp clutch pipe, cam belt and tensioner, cosworth fuel filter, aux belt idler puller, powder coated lifting eyes

Image

aeromotive fuel pressure regulator plus some of the -4 and -6 fittings for the fuel system

Image

garrett gt2560r turbo, forge swirl tank, hks dump valve, commetic head gasket, HD big end and main bearings, ford racing boost guage, piper stainless manifold plate (to make my exhaust manifold)

Image

spec-r custom breather tank with -10 fittings

Image

Image

new pas pump and powder coated bracket with -6 fitting (because i am deleating the a/c the pas pump will now live where the current a/c pump lives, i needed a new pas pressure line to connect to the rack but it costs nearly £150, so its a lot cheaper to aeroquip it!

Image

focus rs mk1 charge cooler pump, after market bracket and wiring harness

Image

reconditioned starter motor, gearbox vent, injector seals

Image

custom alloy fuel rail to take top feed injectors

Image

area-6 ported and polished head, bare at the moment but i test fitted my fuel rail to it, also in the next pics you can see the breather take off has been conversed to take a -10 fitting

Image
Image
Image

S2 ERST bonnet vents to go in my carbon bonnet (that will be scary cutting the holes, i have a spare steel bonnet so migh do a dry run on that first!)

Image

reconditioned focus rs brembo's

Image

fitted

the focus rs brembo's feel so good, really solid and much improved over the 300mm st170 setup i had before

Thanks bud, what I have posted up of the turbo conversion Has taken quite a while, I'm not mechanicsly trained but I decided that I wanted to do a turbo conversion and to do it properly, so I got reading and researching and speaking to loads of people (which took around 6 months in my spare time, and infact I am still making adjustments to my plans now as I learn new stuff) thankful a good friend of mine had his own garage which I hang out on my days off, and he has taught me loads of stuff about working on cars, so I feel confident in tackling most of this myself, as for all the parts I have been collecting parts over the last 18 months, I'm not in a massive rush to finish it which is good because I knew what parts I need and have been keepin my ears to the ground and have been snapping up bargains whenever they present them selves, I do have a fair way to go but I will update regularly with progress

Thanks for reading

Sam

As the pistons are lightweight alloys ones, are you having the crank counterweights re-balanced to suit the new pistons..??

recommend using 'Vibration-free'...they specialise in this sort of work.. :D

Yes I will be getting the crank fully balanced, plus its gonna get a key way to help reliability plus a shot peening and polish, where is the vibration free place located and do they have a web site?

me and my friend sean have been busy this week, firstly my car failed its mot but it was an easy fix, it needed 2 new top mounts on the front, and the rear left caliper was sticking so i took it apart, greased it and now its fine, second job was to spray my new mirror bases satin black and get them on thecar, again no real dramas there, as sean didnt have much work on this week in the garage i decided to do my cam belt, as it was long over due, i had a new ford belt and tensioner but i also had a set of frp cams that sean gave to me, so i thought i would crack on and fit them at the same time, thankfully they didnt need any shimming at all so it was a straight swap, this morning i just need to finish assembly and it will be all done here are some pics of what we have been up too

mirror bases in primer

Image

fitted to the car

Image

i know they look small but i think it makes the car look even wider, im quite chuffed with the result

pile of engine parts for my cams/belt/tensioner replacement

Image

engine fitted with new cams ready for reassembly
