Well.. when I say newbie I did actually own number 351 for a short while but sold it back in 2003.

We've now moved over to rural South Yorkshire where the locals roads would justify the superb handling again.

So ... the time has come to get another and I must confess that I'm a bit out of touch with current prices and things.

Basically I've got a max of £6000 cash to spend and I want to get a car that's not going to need a lot of money spending on it.

Am I dreaming or is this do'able?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

John Williams

Hi John,
At the moment, 6K is very do'able
A couple fo years ago you would have struggled to get one for under about 7-8K. Now you can pick up a pretty good one for under 6K.
Have a look on Pistonheads and Ebay.
I think I saw a high miler that had loads of work done to it for around 4.5K on Ebay
OK, high miles, but lots and lots of moey spent.
Everything done.

Not sure if 351 has changed hands recently or is up for sale :?
the number is familer..
I'm at work so can't check easliy.

Good luck on your hunt

Cheers Graham, thanks for the advice.

Incidentally the car on eBay HPI's as a Green 1.7 16v 123bhp Puma.

Is it normal for these cars to be wrongly identified by HPI? I know some low volume models can suffer from this.

I know DVLA don't reconize the cars as Racing Puma's
just 1.7's.
A few of us tried to get our log books changed a couple of years ago.
we got letters from Ford stating our chassis numbers where FRP's, but as Ford had never supplied DVLA with the cars Details (Type) or something, they couldn't / wouldn't change the log books.
If you go into Halfords etc they pull up the details as a normal 1.7

Not sure if they would go as far wrong to say they were green 123BHP's though

Hi May,

Welcome to the site!

I'd advise looking at a few, which one identified as green? :? I'd not have thought it'd get the colour wrong.

Good luck :D

I'm surprised by the green result too, Mine is down as standard blue, as are the others!

Of course Halfords will show as a standard 1.7, as they the same database as the DVLA, insurance companys show them as standard 1.7 too!

Sort of indirectly off Gavin, yes.

He bought a VX220 if I recall correctly.

Yep that's right, Gav was one of the founders of the RPOC, so we wouldn't be here withouth him and 351 :)

Only myself and Ed left with FRP's from the original gang.....

#77 was also one of the founders when Alex had it.....and also Colin played a big part too
